Nursing Skills for ABGs Interpretation
The Main Learning Objectives
To recognize the importance of homeostasis & to state the normal ranges of the pH, CO₂, and, HCO₃ in the blood
To describe respiratory acidosis, respiratory alkalosis, and metabolic acidosis in terms of the organ systems involved & to compare a given pH value to the normal range of blood pH and label it as acidosis or alkalosis
To recognize the roles of CO₂ and HCO₃- in altering the pH of blood & to state the normal range of CO₂ levels in the blood
To recognize the effects of increased and decreased CO₂ levels on the pH of blood & the effects of increased and decreased HCO₃- levels in the pH of blood
To compare the given CO₂ and HCO₃- values to the normal reference ranges & to relate the abnormality to the organ system involved and label it as respiratory or metabolic
To describe the mechanism of compensation by the lungs and kidneys & to identify the partially compensated and uncompensated states
To describe the 3 treatment methods used to decrease CO₂ levels in respiratory acidosis: medications, BiPAP, and ventilator
To describe the 3 treatment methods used to decrease CO₂ levels in respiratory acidosis: medications, BiPAP, and ventilator
To name the drug used in the treatment of metabolic acidosis & to recognize the compensatory change in the respiratory rate in cases of metabolic acidosis
To name the drug used in the treatment of metabolic acidosis & to recognize the compensatory change in the respiratory rate in cases of metabolic acidosis
Methods of Education to Achieve the Objectives
Every video has specific objectives to be achieved
Initially , participant will have pre-test as a part of assessment steps
Participant will watch videos accompanied by images, pdf files , figures or diagrams. At the end , participant must pass post-test to get certification of completion. Participant must follow the learning path in the platform
Evaluation of Scientific Activity by the Participants
By evaluation form after completing course , it will be send to participants. It is an important to know that it will be mandatory to get certification
