The Basics of ECG Strips for Nursing

The Main Learning Objectives

To list the basic components of an ECG strip

To define amplitude in relation to electrocardiogram (ECG) strips

To recall how many millimeters (mm) are in a millivolt (mV) and to identify how to measure amplitude on an ECG strip

To describe the isoelectric line and what it corresponds to in the cardiac cycle

To describe the components of the ECG strip in relation to the isoelectric line and to identify the two heart rates measured by an ECG strip

To identify the length of the ECG strip section needed to find the heart rate

To describe how to calculate the atrial heart rate &  the ventricular heart rate using an ECG strip

To identify how to assess ventricular and atrial rhythm on an ECG strip and to describe the importance of assessing the heart rhythm

To recall what the P wave corresponds to in the cardiac cycle and to list the 4 questions to ask when analyzing P waves

To recall what the PR interval corresponds to in the cardiac cycle & to identify the relationship between PR interval and heart rate

To recall what the QRS complex corresponds to in the cardiac cycle & to describe why the QRS complex has a greater amplitude than the P wave & and to odentify how the QRS complex is measured

To recall what the ST segment corresponds to in the cardiac cycle & to recall potential causes of an abnormal ST segment

To recall what the T wave corresponds to in the cardiac cycle & to describe the normal characteristics of the T wave & to identify how to measure the amplitude of the T wave

To recall what the QT interval corresponds to in the cardiac cycle & to identify the relationship between heart rate and QT interval

To identify the effect of a prolonged QT interval on the body & to recall the steps of ECG interpretation and identify how to assess for sinus rhythm

To identify the criteria for normal sinus rhythm (NSR)

Methods of Education to Achieve the Objectives

Every video has specific objectives to be achieved

Initially , participant will have  pre-test as a part of assessment steps

Participant will watch videos accompanied by  images, pdf files , figures or diagrams. At the end , participant must pass post-test to get certification of completion. Participant must follow the learning path in the platform

Evaluation of Scientific Activity by the Participants

By evaluation form after completing course , it will be send to participants. It is an important to know that it will be mandatory to get certification
